Marriage Payment

Marriage is the more or less durable connection between man and women. It is a universal and most approved way by which a man or woman live together in formally. It is an approved way to control the sex need of a man. But at the time of marriage there are different types of marriage payments. Different types of marriage payments are discussed below…

A) Bride Price:

Bride price is a payments or set of payments from the groom and his kin to the bride parents. Murduck found 40% society have bride price transaction. Bride price is known as the bride wealth. The payments make in bride price ensure that the groom have justly compensated the bride parents for legal rights to her all sexual activity and her children and change her place or residence.
Exam: Africa, Oceania, California etc.

B) Gift Exchange:

Gift exchange that is evolves the exchange of gifts of equal value by the two kin groups. About two equal value by marriage oceans somewhat more often than the exchange female.
Exam: Andaman island.

C) Exchange of Female:

The society which has this economic transaction for marriage have the custom where by a sister or female kin of the groom is exchanged for the bride. Exam: Tiv of west Africa, Janomano of Veneguala have this form of marriage.

D) Capture of Bride:

In this form of marriage payment the groom has to capture the bride by his wealth, power and intelligent. Some society practiced it as a custom of their society. Exam: the bushman, aunta of central Australia practiced it.

E) Elopement:

Every culture carefully controlled the choosing of marriage partner. But in the practice of elopement by a boy and girl to avoid the objective, raised by the relatives to a proposed marriage. So the system run off and get married in this elopement.

F) Adoption:

A few societies practice the adoption marriage. By adoption and rearing a child in to a family or kin group may be came a potential marriage partner in used as a way of making marriage rules, works.  The poor family practices this marriage system for avoiding bride price. Exam: Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia. 

G) Dowry:

A dowry is a sustainable transfer of goods or money from the bride family to the groom. The marriage payment is not transaction. Exam: sub continent under developed countries.
H) Mohor:
 In this system the groom has to pay property or money to the bride as a marriage transaction. Income from this property is taken by the groom. This system or marriage transaction is called mohorana. Two types
    1. Due mohor.
    2. Late  mohor. Exam: muslim society.     

I) Bride Service:

 Schlegen and Reloul found 90% and murdack found 11% of the society practices this transaction. In this form groom had to work in the bride’s family, sometimes after marriage sometimes before marriage. In some societies it lasts for a few month as well as several years. This transaction also practices in those societies where the state of women is higher than such a horticultural society. Exam: north Alaskan, Eskimo.
