Value of the Sociology of Education

 §  Stress on professional or vocational education: The sociological tendency lays stress on enabling the child to earn his livelihood through professional education.

§  Opposition to individualism: The sociological trend was born out of response to individualism. It pressures the importance of society, against the individual.

§  Social progress as the aim of education: Social well-being is the goal recognized in education by the sociological trend. Children should be taught only about this through a system of free and obligatory education. And this should make the children a future responsible member of society.

§  Faith in democracy: The sociological tendency also shows trust in democracy. In a democracy, education is founded on the collaboration between the state and society and besides, the achievement of democracy depends upon education.

§  Clarification of social problems: The sociological Tendency clarifies social problems and suggests ways and means of solving them through education. Many social reforms can be brought about by education, and it can create an entirely new generation that may be free of the defects inherent in the older generation.

§  Raising the standard of social life: The aim of the sociology of education is to develop the standard of social life by developing children’s comprehensive development. Education train the person to fulfill his social duties and if it fails to do, education does not need any utility.

§  Importance to social science: The attendance of the sociological tendency in education has controlled to greater significance being attached to the social sciences so that the child can recognize social problems, and thus be enabled to make some positive involvement in social welfare.

§  Importance to social life in the school: Because of sociological tendencies social life within the school has been very. It is now suggested that authorities should encourage the formation of committees that train the child for later social life.

§  Education as an agency of social progress: Sociologists defined education as the best means of social control, social change, and of social progress. All social changes that may become essential for social progress can be easily transported through education.
