Education plays a vital role in building a prosperous nation. It not only provides people with scientific and technical skills for economic progress, but also develops character, patriotism, and a sense of social responsibility. Through proper use of leisure time and training for national defence, education helps shape disciplined, productive, and committed citizens. In this way, a strong system of education becomes the foundation of national development and prosperity.
1. Professional Training: Education must ensure that the educand is provided with a range of scientific and technical education so they can make a positive contribution to the nation’s economic and technological progress. For this, a technical and scientific education is required.
2. Character Building: The prosperity of a nation depends upon the character of its citizens, not upon their individual and respective knowledge. One of the reasons of the widespread and economic corruption seen in the developing country economic sphere today is the lack of character. Hence, education must also seek to develop social and moral qualities in the educand so that he should be inspired to employ his talents for the benefit of society. Patriotism is an important element in character-building. At present, many have had the opportunity to pursue scientific and technical education in foreign countries at the expense of their own nation. But these people do not return home to put their talents at the disposal of the country, because they sell themselves for the remuneration they receive abroad.
3. Proper Utilization of leisure time: It has been found that the average villager makes no sensible and profitable use of the spare time at his disposal. If this time is put to constructive use, it will help in the development of the individual’s personality and also contribute to the nation’s prosperity.
4. Military Training: One important condition of developing a country into a prosperous democratic nation is the capacity to face and rebuff any military challenge. For this, it is desirable that education help every young man and woman receive military training. Such training will help in times of national emergency, as trained men and women will be able to form an effective second line of defence.
