Vulnerability and Rural Society


Bangladesh is one of the poorest countries among the 3rd world. Here 60% of rural people live under the extreme poverty line. Moreover, total national income is also low. In spite of, Bangladesh is 8th country on the basis of population. Here the real features have been reflected to discuss the nature of rural poor people. So it can be easily supposed that the daily life of rural poor people is very vulnerable.

Vulnerable condition of rural people are given below

Social Vulnerability: 

In the social vulnerability there are some different kinds of vulnerability those are given below:
Education: Education is very important for every man in the society. But in the rural area of Bangladesh the children can’t completes his/her primary and secondary education for insufficient educational institution, poverty, ignorance etc. Women suffer a lot in this sector.
Gender discrimination: In the social vulnerability gender discrimination is the major vulnerability in the rural area. In the rural area mainly women suffer a lot for gender discrimination. They cannot complete her primary education for poverty, social ignorance, child marriage etc. after the marriage before her physical and mental maturity she become a mother. Thus they are vulnerable in the society.

Economic Vulnerability:

Unemployment:  Unemployment problem is one of the most important factors in the rural society. In rural society more than 75% people are related with agricultural production and they suffer seasonal unemployment. For example in the rainy season most of the farmers have no work, on the other hand in the summer season most of the fisherman has no work. So in this season they cannot do anything and thus they are vulnerable.
This unemployment in rural society makes the poverty problems more deep. As a result their living slandered decrease day by day.

Cultural Vulnerability: 

In the rural Bangladeshi people has its own cultural. They are very fatalistic. They don’t know the modern style and other think. But now in the bless of ‘Dish’ the condition is changing.

Political Vulnerability: 

Most of the rural people are illiterate and they are not aware about their political rights. As a result they are not get their fundamental right. In the select of political leader they are influence by other. For example in the national election most of the village people don’t judge the leaders capability, they see the symbol of the political parties.

Natural Vulnerability: 

Because of natural disaster and seasonal disaster like (flood, cyclone) marginal and landless farmer are suffer at economic crisis. Almost every year domestic animals as well as cultivable land get damaged because of natural disaster. That is why people lost his capital and they become poorer.
On the other hand for natural disaster child and women are suffer a lot in nutrition, diseases etc. for example Mohasen, Ahila, Sidoer etc.

Conclusion:  

From the above discussion we can say that various elements are responsible for the vulnerability of rural society. Poverty is main responsible for all vulnerability.
